Throughout the book it is obvious that the authors, journalists, and magazine creators are very proud of the impact that the magazine industry has had on the world. A lot of love and care has been given to the production of We Love Magazines as it takes an in‑depth look into the different aspects of the magazine industry in an attractive and eye catching fashion.

We Love Magazines looks at the varying techniques and substantial effort needed to produce a high quality magazine which will succeed in the congested market. The importance of the content, cover and design are all explained. The detailed analysis of these aspects is easy to understand for a person not familiar with the magazine industry and is always interesting.

The book also charts the history of magazines and explores publications which broke the mould. In addition to this there are profiles of seven great moments in the history of magazine journalism from around the globe. The creators of various pioneering independent magazines are also interviewed in the book. The insight of people who have set up a variety of magazines is intriguing.

One of the finest qualities of the book is that it takes a global outlook at the magazine industry. We Love Magazines does not just concentrate on North America and Europe. Magazines from South America, Asia, Africa and Oceania are all profiled. It also devotes attention to mainstream brands and independent creations. However, it must be acknowledged that the book does concentrate more on independent magazines. It is obvious that a considerable amount of time has been taken researching magazines worldwide. This is a major strength of the book as it gives you an insight into the diversity of magazines produced by different cultures. At the end of the book a comprehensive catalogue of independent magazines from around the globe is provided.

The design of We Love Magazines is consistently good. The pictures and text compliment each other very well. The reader is kept interested by the unique style that the content is displayed. Ironically the section covering the work of magazine designers is probably the weakest chapter in the book. Twelve designers write about their experiences working on magazines. The articles have been jumbled up which makes it very long and tiresome to find and read.

We Love Magazines is a celebration of the magazine industry. Everyone who has contributed to this book obviously loves magazine culture. It is very biased in the celebration of magazines but it does not try to hide this fact. The book contains a lot of information and in-depth analysis of the magazine industry but is always enjoyable to read. The magazine industry constantly has to find new ways to modernise in this technological age. It will be interesting to see how magazines develop over the coming years.
